National Adoption Awareness Month. Adoption for all kinds of families.

National Adoption Awareness Month. Because all children deserve a loving home.

You already knew that November is the month of Thanksgiving, you might even know that it’s Peanut Butter lovers month, but did you know that November is also National Adoption Awareness Month?

A cause close to my heart because I’ve had the honor of being Mom to my smart, beautiful daughter who we adopted when she was almost one year old.

Adoption is a life affirming way to form a family.

It’s a little fate, some magic and God’s destiny all rolled into one. I know so many families who have adopted children.

I know families who’ve adopted domestically through the foster care system, families who were formed through a private US adoption, families with kids from China, Korea, Guatemala, Ethiopia.

You can adopt teens, toddlers or infants. If you are single, a gay couple, an older parent; whatever kind of family you are, there is an adoption option for you.

There is no right or wrong path or program to adopt. Whichever way that’s right for your family is right for you.

There are lots of kinds of families and lots of types of adoptions to suit each. If you are considering adoption, here are some resources and places to start.
Adopt US Kids-places children who are in the US foster system.

National Adoption Council: Has info on domestic and international adoption.

National Adoption Awareness Month, resources for domestic adoption.

Rainbow Kids: Information on international adoptions, country specific info, and waiting children in international programs.

The cost? Adoption fees can be anywhere from $50,000+ to just about free. There are even groups to help you afford the cost of adoptions. You don’t have to be loaded to adopt.

Help Us Adopt-provides grants to help families pay for adoption.

There are also resources and information for military families:

Have you seen these ads on adopting from the Ad Council? They make me laugh and prove that you don’t have to be perfect to be the perfect family for a child.

If you have any questions about adoption, let me know. And would love to hear your adoption stories!
