How I Finally Kicked my Diet Coke Addiction.
I love me some Diet Coke. Ok, I mean, I have a Diet Coke addiction. Downing an iced cold can glistening with moisture takes me to my happy place. It makes a bad day bearable and a good day better.
I’ve been in love with Diet Coke a very long time. I drank four, sometimes five, a day and have done it since I can’t remember when, maybe since high school? Mid-morning, lunch, afternoon. It was just what I did. It gave me energy, a pick-me-up and seemed to keep my mood up. I had tried a million different times to quit and nothing seemed to break my Diet Coke addiction. But recently I stopped. I was so scared I quit cold turkey. So what finally scared me enough to make me stop? I’m sad to admit it. Vanity. I’m sure you’ve heard all the bad stuff about Diet Coke. There is the medical research that Diet Coke causes metabolic syndrome, increases your risk of type 2 diabetes, stroke, heart disease, calcium loss, and even increases your appetite. But what scared the bu-jesus out of me?

Diet Sodas Make You Fat
It says that the waist measurement of people who drank diet soda increased over 70% compared to people who didn’t. 70 percent! WTF? That did it, because since I’m on the down side of 40, my waist has gone bye-bye. My figure is beginning to resemble John Goodman’s, and not in a good way.
The first week was rough but now I don’t really miss it. I drink hot tea, sparking water, and water spiked with lemon juice. I still don’t have the waist I had in high school, but I do feel less puffy. Unbelievably, I don’t really miss my DC. I guess my Diet Coke addiction just wasn’t a match for being able to zip up my blue jeans.
I’m with you on the Diet addiction although my bane is Diet Dr. Pepper. Thankfully it hasn’t had an effect on my waist line.
You svelte skinny man you!
