3 Casual Basics To Mix Into Your Existing Wardrobe
Here are a few key pieces for the chillier weather that are comfortable, casual and stylish-all at the same time! Try adding these pieces to some of the basics that you already wear on a daily basis to add some style to your casuals.
1. Fashionable Sneakers.
Ditch the big bulky white cross trainers and get a pair of black casual moc styled sneakers to wear with your jeans. An easy instant stylish move up. These stylish sneaks are from an innovative company called Native.
I’ve been looking for a while for a pair of sneakers I can take with me when I travel that I can wear for a workout and also wear with jeans for sightseeing and walking around town. I’d been searching for a pair that are compact and that don’t take up too much space or weight in my suitcase. These are perfect. The Apollo Moc from Native. The microfiber tops flatten out to nothing and fit easily in a carryon bag.
2. Puffer Vest.
I snagged this one at a Gap sale last season and have gotten tons of wear out of it. If it’s really chilly, I can layer another jacket underneath it. Look for a vest with a streamlined fit and without too much puffy filling, you don’t want a boxy masculine fit.
Here’s a similar matte black puffer vest at Gap-and it’s on sale!) I’ve paired it here with black Paige denim skinny jeans and a grey casual fit pullover sweater. (Again, got it at a Gap sale last year, but here’s a similar Banana Republic relaxed fit sweater.)
3. Animal Print Scarf
Isn’t animal print a neutral? An animal print scarf goes with stripes, solids, anything. I bought this scarf last season at Nordstrom and when I travel I always pack it-it’s my go to accessory becauuse it goes equally well with so many outfits, day or night.
Here’s a similar style animal print scarf from Sole Society-and ON SALE!
I’m wearing a pair of my favorite Paige denim jeans. These jeans are not cheap but they wash so well, and the high quality fabric and stretch means that they don’t get baggy after a long day in them. They really hold up and are the jeans that I reach for again and again. If you can swing it, well worth the investment.
Some other elements to add some style to a casual outfit.
Casual Updo Hair
I’ve got long hair and one of my favorite ways to wear it is in a ponytail and then create a messy, casual bun.
It’s a great way to get your hair off your face and out of your way when you’re out and about, and a tousled loose bun looks a lot more stylish than a ho hum ponytail.
Crossbody Bag in Gunmetal
This purse is from Sven USA and produced right in Berkeley, California. They use great materials and create stylish, incredibly well made products. I’ve taken this bag on many excursions and it only looks better with time.
The strap is adjustable so you can wear it lots of ways. This style also comes in over 20 other colors! I love this gunmetal color, it has a bit of a subdued metallic hue.
And of course, cute sunglasses.
And yes, these are my favorite Tom’s sunglasses again. Comfy, great lenses and every pair you purchase buys eye exams or glasses for people who can’t afford it. A styling win win!
So there you have it some basic elements to add to your wardrobe for traveling, running errands, carpool line or a fun weekend brunch.
Why not try these basics to mix in some style to your daily casual ensemble?
