The daily habit that’s totally aging your skin.
Everyone thinks of sunscreen in the summer. It’s kinda a no brainer. Beach. Vacation. Bike rides. Barbeques.
Most people are pretty diligent about sunscreen when it’s hot outside. But do you know how much sun you can get every day without even realizing? And do you know how much this accumulation of exposure is aging your skin?
It’s not the beach vacations that are wrecking your skin. It’s the small exposures every day that are aging your skin prematurely.
And one of the top ways you age your skin everyday? Driving.
Yes, driving.
The glass in our cars effectively blocks out UVB rays (those are the rays of the sun most responsible for skin cancer).
Windshields are treated to block out UVA rays, but guess what, the side windows in your car aren’t treated to deflect UVA rays. So every trip behind the wheel means exposure to rays causing wrinkling, aging, and brown spots. Not to mention increasing your risk of skin cancers. Yikes! Think of how many hours, days, months and years you spend in your car. All that exposure really adds up.
This explains why you might notice more wrinkling, sun damage and brown spots on the left side of your face, hands and arms. The driving side (left side if you live in the US) of our face and hands accumulate a lot more sun exposure from years of driving.
I can definitely notice the difference on my own face and hands where I’ve got twice as many brown spots on my left side.
Here’s what you need to do. Apply a broad spectrum sunscreen to your face, arms and hands every single day. Only a broad spectrum sunscreen protects you from both UVA and UVB rays.
I’ve found a great sunscreen that’s light enough for everyday use.
La Roche Posay Anthelios 60 Lightweight Sunscreen Fluid.
This sunscreen fluid goes on light and doesn’t leave you with that overly white chalky look. The texture is much lighter than a standard sunscreen. It doesn’t give you that coated sticky feel either.
Anthelios 60 not only protects against UVA and UVB rays but it uses advanced anti-oxidants to protect your skin from free radicals that age your skin prematurely. Anthelios is recommended by over 25,000 dermatologists and is paraben and fragrance free so it won’t irritate your skin. I have really sensitive skin and this sunscreen didn’t break me out.
You can find La Roche Posay Anthelios 60 Light Sunscreen Fluid in most drugstores.
It’s a small easy to carry size, so I can easily slip into my purse and reapply during the day. I’m now in the habit of applying before I get in my car.
The way I see it, this is one simple step I can take to lessen sun damage every single day.
(A pic of the great sized sunscreen at a recent football game. Please pardon the messy mani!)
Here’s the website for La Roche Posay Anthelios 60 Ultra Light Fluid.
And important information on the serious sun hazards in your car.
Sun damage can cause wrinkles and aging but even more importantly, it can cause skin cancer. 90% of skin cancers are treatable if found early. So check your skin and don’t forget to protect it everyday, and every time you buckle up.
I was given a sample of Anthelios 60 Ultra Light Fluid to try out, but all opinions about the product are my own.
