My Prince Inspired Fashion, a tribute outfit in shades of purple.
I’ve channeled my grief over the loss of Prince to create a shades of purple outfit today as a tribute. The news of Prince’s death really affected me. Since the sad news of his death, his greatest hits have been on a nonstop playlist in my head. Prince was the soundtrack of my teens. He was the inspiring, uniting voice of my generation.
And so, today I’m seeking to honor him through fashion. I’ve channeled my inner Prince to create an outfit that pays homage to his fearless, inspiring style.
I’ve had this sheer purple shirtdress in my closet for several seasons and never knew how to wear it until now. I finally figured out how to wear it after seeing photos of Prince from the early 80’s with shirts unbuttoned to the waist. So I’ve left the sheer, long shirt unbuttoned except for one button, a la Prince, and worn it over a black camisole and a pair of black skinny crop pants from Banana Republic.
A Prince inspired outfit wouldn’t be complete without some high heels! I’ve never seen a photo of Prince when he wasn’t wearing heels, so I wore my Sam Edelman sling backs in grey suede.
This studded bronze purse lent a little rocker bling to the outfit. I’ve pulled out a vintage cocktail ring from my jewelry collection. To pick up the grey in the shoes, I wore a long freshwater pearl necklace as a bracelet.
To top it off, I picked up nail color by Deborah Lippman, Call Me Irresponsible in a true Prince Purple Rain purple.
These super long silver earrings reminded me of the big earrings that I loved way back in the 80’s when I rocked out to Little Red Corvette.
I left my hair long and a bit undone, and went with a plum toned blush and lipstick. I even did a subtle cat eye since eyeliner was such an integral part to the Prince look.
I’m still so saddened that the world lost an artistic genius, boundary pusher and humanitarian. But channeling some Prince style seems a fitting tribute to him. Try your own Prince inspired fashion. Be bold. Wear something outside of your comfort zone. Be unapologetic and add a splash of purple as a tribute to this rule breaking artist.
