How do you find your own personal style? Here’s tips from one super stylish woman showing us all how to embrace over 40 fashion!
I am inspired by the style of many amazing women I’m fortunate to know. One of the most stylish women I am honored to know is Kimberly K.
Kimberly has such great fearless style! She proves that over 40 fashion can be sexy, stylish, classic and chic. I always love to see the eclectic, stylish and “classic with a twist” outfits she wears and shares on Facebook. I can’t wait to see the stylish accessories she pairs in unique and unexpected ways and always draw such inspiration from her looks (and try to figure out how to recreate them for myself!). Well now Kimberly is sharing her tips so that we can all recreate some of her amazing looks too!
This lady is gorgeous and accomplished. She’s a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a focus on Mental Health and Substance abuse. She’s also an adjunct Professor at The University of Arkansas at Little Rock and has her own practice too.
Kimberly proves you can still be stylish even with a busy life. A divorced mom with three kids, she recently married her high school sweetheart. (Adorable!)
I had the chance to ask Kimberly to share some of her stylish looks and how she manages to look so fashionable. Here are some of her secrets.
When did your love of fashion begin?
I have always loved all things fashion. I had my own sense of style in junior high school. I can say that I really began to embrace it fully in high school. I now know that people noticed. But I dressed that way then because I liked it. My style has ebbed and flowed and changed over the years but I have always loved all things girl! I always say that if I were not a therapist I would dress people for a living.
How would you describe your style?
I would describe my style as eclectic chic (I made that up because no one category fits me). I like so many different styles. I swear I have about 15 style mavens living inside of me and they all want to shine! I will wear cowboy boots with a fringe jacket and pearls, or a biker jacket with a pair of slacks to work.
What advice would you give for someone trying to add more style into their wardrobe?
I really do get asked this question a lot. And my answer is always pretty much the same; find what you love and wear it. Do not be afraid to step out of the box. Most often that box is one that “they” or someone else has put you in. We tend to listen to a lot of “they say” or the “trend is”. Take what they say and the trends if you must and make them work for you. Kimberly’s Pro tip: Find a seamstress who can make outfits for you that you love but can’t find.
What fashion trends are you loving right now?
I am really loving mixed prints and fabrics, and “pops” of color…which simply means it doesn’t have to match.
What’s your favorite accessory right now?
Pearls pearls and more pearls! Big ones, small ones, single strands and layered strands. I am loving pearls.
Is there something that every woman should have in their closet?
I think every woman should have a classic pair of black pumps, a pair of classic black slacks, and a funky piece of jewelry unlike anyone else’s.
What makes you feel most beautiful?
What makes me feel beautiful is internal more than anything I put on. I wear scrubs to work some days because I work in Skilled Nursing Facilities now and I feel just as beautiful in them as I do a maxi dress and pumps.
It took me a while to get here. But fashion is as much or more internal than external because “YOU” make the outfit. But I do feel beautiful when I get to wear an awesome pair of pumps. I do love a classic pump.
A girl who loves a great pair of shoes? Now that’s a lady after my own heart! Thanks to Kimberly for the inspiration and for sharing her tips on rocking over 40 fashion with us!
