4 Fashions my Over 40 ass won’t be wearing this summer.
I love trying new fashion trends as much as the next girl, but lately it seems that so many fashions are completely unwearable. Is it just me? Maybe I’m just too old and crotchety. Or maybe it’s not me and fashion is just totally whacked right now.
So here are the fashion trends you won’t see my over 40 ass rocking this summer. You can thank me later.
1. Culottes.
An intoxicated elf man must have decided on this fashion trend because I can’t think of anyone who actually looks good in these. Can you say matronly? They make my legs look like small redwood tree trunks.
2. The Romper.
Call it a romper. Call it a playsuit. I call it something that I haven’t worn since kindergarten. So I”m not going to do it now! And it’s still a jumpsuit which means one thing: 1970’s style camel toe. (Is camel toe back and noone let me know?) Uncomforableness, bunching and way too much interference with the girly parts. Count me out.
3. Cut off jean shorts.
I did this in the 80’s and 90’s. Even asking my boyfriend at the time if I’d cut too much off of my old Levis and and made cutoffs that were too short.
Looking back I know understand this universal truth:
No one should have to see my pasty white legs in holey denim cutoffs. Not to mention the scratches from my cats and the pencil lead tip still lodged the back of my thigh from an accident with a number 2 pencil in high school. So not going there.
4. Crop tops.
I had a crop top once. Yes, I even had my name airbrushed on it that I got while on my senior class trip to Florida. It had a palm tree and a sunset on it too. I know, you’re jealous. Yes, it was the 80’s and I could still wear the whole crop top thing. Living in LA, I’ve seen way too many people who haven’t realized that there time to rock this fashion trend has passed. I’ve seen far too many tummy rolls and jelly bellies courtesy of this trend. Power to you for wearing what you want but I will do the entire public a favor and not get near this trend. One airbrushed crop top is enough for any girl.
What fashion trends will you be saying no to this year?
Do tell!

Okay, okay, you make great points, but especially for the culottes, I think the cut and style is what can make them look good on your shape. To me, they are almost like a skirt—one that won’t blow up in the wind and show off your panties!! jodie

Great point! Maybe its just that I’ve got such a looooongggg torso, If you have long legs you might be set! Thanks for stopping by via #midlifeluv
this is so funny and sadly true!! When I could rock the crop top it was 25 years ago. My 55 yr old body would probably reject it like a virus! #MidlifeLuv
amen!! remember when we had those things called abs instead of jiggles? That was a looongg time ago!
Thank you for reading and commenting on my post. I know what you mean! I saw a woman in a restaurant who was 45 if she was a day wearing a crop top. She wore it about as well as I would have, it was effective diet trick!
Well, my so far over 50 it’s closer to 60 ass won’t be wearing shorts of ANY length. I also will not be wearing those loud flowery maxi dresses that look more like nighties. I have no idea what I will be wearing as the shops in the UK are full of clothes that I would not wear unless it was was for a dare or maybe for Halloween. I have not hated clothes so much since the seventies when everything clashed and we wore shoes that gave us altitude sickness. Thank you for your lovely post. #MidLifeLuv party goer.
I know what you mean about the loud flowery nighties! I’m so not into that either. Please oh please I hope fashion moves on quickly to something a little more flattering. Thank you for stopping by and thank you for reading. Loving the #midlifeluv party!!
I went to the Reno Rodeo last night where the ‘Daisy Dukes’ (aka cut off jean shorts) were out in full force. Paired with cowboy boots of course. Found out there’s a name for the stylish group: Buckle Bunnies. Appropriate.
Thanks for joining us at #MidLifeLuv. We’re glad to get to know you and your blog!

Oh yes, the daisy dukes. I’d never heard of “Buckle Bunnies”. Glad to know of that phenomenon! I’m so loving the #midlifeluv thanks for hosting! I’m enjoying getting to know all the other blogs too!
Amen to all of them – I’m not going there either! Throw in anything shapeless and boxy and I think we’ve covered most of my don’ts.
Oh yes, the big boxy billowy stuff is not working either!! Thanks for stopping by!
